"Regreening" the Grounds, Creating an Outdoor Learning Centre and Developing a Distinctive Visual Identity for The Canadian Canoe Museum
During its early years, the Museum's Board of Trustees concentrated on protecting the collection and on the core exhibits in the interior of the Weston National Heritage Centre. Now, with the core exhibits completed, the Museum is turning its attention to other phases of the Museum's Capital Development Plan.

The Museum site is a former industrial property that is being transformed into a natural oasis in an urban landscape. Building exteriors, signs, lighting and plantings of native vegetation will convey a strong message about the connection we have with the land, water and forests of Canada.
The Outdoor Learning Centre will capture the essence of Ontario's wilderness; forests, rocks and water. Historical encampments will bring some of the Museum exhibits to life. Canoeing and kayaking skills will be demonstrated on a large pond and visitors too, will be able to experience paddling, perhaps for the first time.

Visiting artisans will share their skills as part of an ongoing program. West coast Aboriginal builders will construct dugouts of their region one year; Inuit builders constructing an Eastern Arctic kayak will be featured the next.
The Outdoor Learning Centre will be one of the signature attractions of The Canadian Canoe Museum and memorable experiences here will remain in the minds of visitors for years to come.
