Serving as the curricular foundation for all other museum offerings, these 90-minute interdisciplinary programs provide students from Grades 4 to 8 with an experiential orientation and introduction to the canoe in Canadian cultures, specific to their chosen area of study.
Cost is $5 per student.
Traditional Knowledge and Skills: With an integrated Native Studies focus, this core experience allows students to explore traditional knowledge and skills though the process of oral history and storytelling in the Museum's Origins Gallery and inside a Mi'kmaq birch bark wigwam.
Trappers and Traders: A social studies journey into the heart of the fur trade through a series of costumed role-playing vignettes at our trading dock and voyageur encampment. Portaging practice, trade items, bannock baking, and manipulation of various types of actual furs make this an engaging experience for all.
Path of the Paddle: Drawing on the principles of ecology, this core experience explores environmental stewardship and human interaction with the land, as seen through the eyes of the Canadian canoeist and environmentalist, Bill Mason.
